After two years since the album Fractals (2023), the Costa Rican trio Ariel Maniki and the Black Halos returns with the new single Pieces. According to the band’s leader, Ariel Maniki, “Pieces is a cry for help in a moment of need – the search for a home, for warmth, safety, connection, and a new perspective on the world. Essentially, the song is dedicated to art itself.”

Since the release of Fractals, the members have been involved in other projects, such as Proyecto Escapulario, The Waning Moon, and Red Apple Cvlt. After a brief hiatus, Ariel Maniki, Janice Black, and Eva Red came together to compose new songs, but they realized that nothing was flowing naturally. They then decided to rent a cabin in the mountains near San José, set up a small recording station, and isolate themselves for a weekend to define the sound of the new track. “Before playing any instrument, we sat down to discuss what our new song should convey – a combination of elements that reflected our essence, with atmospheric guitars, deep vocals, and a beat inspired by new wave, creating an atmosphere of longing and yearning,” explained Maniki.
During this experience, the band also documented their creative process, which will serve as the basis for an upcoming promotional video, and recorded the B-side The Veil, which contrasts with the sound of Pieces.

Pieces is now available for download on Bandcamp and for streaming on Spotify and other digital platforms. The music video for the track will be released on March 28, preceding a rare show in their hometown, San José, at the Nico Baker Theater, scheduled for April 5.
