RAVENFIELD is an interesting band of dark rock there from Germany, which is closer to metal music. We interviewed them, who told us a little bit about their songwriting process and what it’s been like to keep a band out of conventional heavy metal.

We want to thank you guy for this interview. To start our conversation, could you tell a bit about the band’s story? How do you start in music?

We started in 2015 as a project. 2016 we had our first gig as RAVENFIELD. At this time with other bassplayer and drummer but. From this time we played many gigs and recorded our first EP. During the last years we had some changes in the band. But at least since january 2018 we play in this constellation and it feels very good. So the outcome of that was our first album FAITH AND FALL.

When I received the e-mail from Markus (sorry bro for all the time I delay answering your messages LOL) I read the tag dark rock and I expected something similar to Bethlehem’s Mein Weg, but, for my surprise, it sounds less alternative rock and more metal. What are the influences on Ravenfield’s music?

Of course there are many influences. And very often we are compared to bands like end of green, sentenced etc. But we don’t want to copy one of these bands. We like to create our own sound and style.

You are from Dachau, a historic town (in a good and a bad way, if you understand me). How is the rock / metal scene there? I ask this because I think it is very difficult to get space in places far from Berlin, for example.

There is a rock and metal scene in munich (dachau is very close to munich). But at the beginning its always hard for a band to get a standing. Maybe it will be the same in Berlin or other cities.  Musicbusiness is hard work but we love it every time when we have the chance to play in munich.

Germany is very famous for a lot of metal bands, especially thrash and heavy metal bands. But, in recent times some new bands from approaches less “iconservatives” appeared. Does the people welcome a more rock-oriented sound band today?

We should ask that to the people. When people like heavy and trash they also can like good rock music.  😉

Faith and Fall is your first full length recording, with a very good production and some good songs. My favorite is Wasteland because is sad and the bassline excellent and reminds me Poisonblack, one of my favorite bands. Could you say us anything about this recording?

We produced Faith and Fall at the recordyourmusic studios in Freising. Our EP was also produced there. The atmosphere and the workflow there is very relaxed and familiar. Stefan, the studio owner and producer helped us very much during the recording process. We recorded some “old” songs from the former EP and the new songs. For us it was the right time to do that. The album was the logical next step for Ravenfield. We stared recording in november 2018 end finished it in april 2019. Just a few weeks before the release, but just in time  🙂

What message do you want to give with your music?

We want to be a good friend in sad situations.

And about gigs, are all going well? What are the plans

We have no more gigs planed in 2019. Actually we were confirmed for two festivals in 2020. There are some other gigs planed for 2020 so we will be on the road again. More than in 2019 and at the end thats it what its all about. Playing live !!!

I want to thank you for this interview. This is a space to let a message for our readers. Let’s go!

First of all we want to thank you for your support. And people, visit your local bands, support the underground. They are worth it.

Cheers!
